Back to main page Space Covers and Cover Songs

If you read Jack's interview from May 2012, you know that we didn't have much faith in Space Covers. Do you know why ?

Space Covers was made from popular songs, classics and tv-themes. It is also an instrumental. Making instrumentals from popular songs is almost certain to fail. Albums which are like Space Covers hardly ever gains much popularity, chart positions or anything.   Most of the songs have already well known versions from the melodies you are playing. In order to gain something with cover album you must improve the original plays. In a way your listeners and fans like.

No matter, what the movie medias and their reps say about the Space Covers and it's success, when you make your first albums you should not follow Space Covers - formula. Our first album Space Waves is far more better sample for the successful first album.

When you make your first albums, you should play some new or unknown songs for the singles and to the album. It does not matter very much how they are made and played.

When new wave came in the late 70's, the songs the punk rockers played for their albums were usually quite far from smooth and good. The punk rockers were young people, whose songs and skills were far below the trained stars and background bands, the big record companies used. And they conquered the hearts of the music listeners with their music and lyrics.

Rock'n'Roll in the 50's was a very big revolution in the music. Rock'n'roll beat the big bands, which ruled the music after the second world war.  Rock bands and stars were less skilled, talented and their music wasn't as smooth, good, and well played as it was with the big bands.

In the 90's rap was much like the punk in the 70's and Rock'n'Roll in 50's.

Almost the only successful cover songs, are songs with translated lyrics.  There are very many successful covers in this genre. My Way is probably the best known cover song ever. My Way has translated lyrics.

When we are talking about money, making a cover song is very simple. In music making fees are almost always based on the success of the song.

Your liabilities to pay copyright fees is based on the money you get from the song.  Song and album sales. Radio plays. And so on.

In music making you share the profits and losses with others involved.
