Salome
March 2014

Hi. Salome. Famous noble Jewish woman. Just finished the dance act, which made me famous. Danced at my stepfather's - Jewish King - birthday bash.

Asked and got the head of John Baptist as reward. In the pictures you see sinful me. Either with John's head or performing The dance of 7 veils.

When I made the request, John Baptist was held in prison. Step-Pa was embarrassed, didn't want to kill him.

But he gave the order. Didn't have much changes.

I am not a sinful whore, who bought John - the Prisoner - Baptist's head with strip-tease and sex. Besides being a step daughter, I am a queen just like my mother.

My mother - Herodias - was married to Herod Antipas. Herod Antipas ruled the southern Palestine ( current Israel ).  I was married to Philip the Tetrarch. Philip was the king of the northern Palestine. After Philip died, I continued to rule the northern Palestine. I married Aristobulus of Chalcis. Both of my husbands were step brothers of Herod Antipas, who gave the execution order.

So. John was executed in the prison. Got his head in the bash  ... on silver plate. After getting the head, I gave it to my mom.

Ever since Christians published my act in their holy book, speculations around my act have been running wild.  Why did  I want St John's head, what kind of a dance it was.

Christians say that I am Eve like evil and devious woman. Femme Fatale. Due to this dance act they say, that dancing is a sin.

+ + Face the facts + +

When we look at the facts from the death. The only stories about the dance are in New Testament. Gospels of Matthew and Mark.

Gospels do not know, why John was a prisoner ... during the time he lost his head. John lost his head at the same time Jesus was crucified.

It is not known, whether John was already sentenced to death. If he was already convicted to death, just like Jesus, the only thing Salome did, was request for immediate execution ... and the head.

+ + Aftermath + +

In 1896 Oscar Wilde wrote a romanticized theater play from my act. In 1910 Richard Strauss composed an opera from the play. Then there are many movies and paintings from the dance-act - like in the side bar.

In the romanticized Wilde story line I am in love with John Baptist. The dance got also a form and name - The Dance of 7 Veils - the dance is an erotic strip tease like dance. It is based on Mesopotamian religious ritual - The Seven Gates - in the ritual a woman gets completely naked. Her mission is to do it in a way, which makes men hot.
