Not familiar with the actual process ... They could use water and chemicals.
During cooling you extract water and fireproofing chemicals from pulp.
The waste waters are "cleaned" with chemicals and bacteria, that's for sure.

Physical CO2 furnace doesn't need chemicals and water.
Furnace pulp has better quality and the process is environmentally safe.

Small and cheap signed paper is needed for CO2 furnace's commercial usage. Cast wood will not supersede any other raw material ?
Cast wood supersedes sawmill planks, wooden glue plates and beams. In constructions wood competes with bricks.
Cast wood facility can have a traditional sawmill unit for traditional planks. 
You saw the 1st quality planks from the center and lead the sides to CO2 furnace.

You said that cast wood plank is cheaper than sawmill plank.
If 1 GW river plant system would cost around 100 millions, production price with capital cost for 1 kWh is around 0.1 cents.
River and sea current plants are the cheapest ways to produce electricity.
