What are those swappable hard disks like.
I have few hard disk caddies for the Laptops. After you buy and put a hard disk into it, they are installed to the ultrabay slot in the Laptop. Usually there is DVD drive in the slot.Into one 1TB caddy to 1TB USB2.0 hard disk enclosure you can store over 100 DVD's. You do not need many, and you do not change the caddies very often. Caddies uses s-Ata connection, slightly more reliable than the USB connectors.
Hot swappable ?
You can take and change hard disk caddies much like CD-discs. There is a button and drag with what you can change the caddies. Due to the nature of hard disk, you should always stop the player before you take the caddy away. If you don't there is a chance that you damage logical partitions and files on them. It is same with the memory cards. The cost for being capable of writing data to disk or storage.When you rip DVD's or store data to the disk, you must detach the device from the OS, before you take the caddy away from the Laptop. Otherwise you are almost certain to lose data.

Your shower and ear accident wasn't a blessing.
No. Lost most of the hearing from my left ear in the accident. Had some temporal with the same ear earlier. When I tested my hearing with headset, the inner ears were okay. Left ear hums all the time, I cannot capture sounds from the distance. The humming is very annoying. My ears have hummed before, but it has lasted only few days.
