Rotor is always in top. Below the rotor you need space for thrust.  If space for thrust is too big, body sways a lot. Single rotor or combined thrust must be near weight center. Rotor can be turned into all directions. Original idea is that, copter car do not have tail propel for left-right steering. It saves weight and length.

Roof must be rounded aerodynamically for leading thrust away from body. Engine is on the roof. Exhaust gases are obviously used for creating turbulences and enforcing the thrust buffer below rotor.

Bottom is always wing, with small airbag. When copter car stands in the air, you can increase the size of air bag. In uncontrolled falls you extend the sides and air bag from the idle position.

Rotor-body needs a system, which keeps the bottom wing angle. Nose down fly creates vacuum-pressure system, which pushes copter down.

For safety, body should be the outmost part.

When you play with flying vehicles, weight reducement is important. Copter car is the only possible way to build a flying vehicle for bigger masses ( into exiting infrastructure ). Possible that in the future gravitational shield allows the construction of another kind of flying vehicle.

16th October 2018 - Gas exchange and cooling

In the picture you basics for air cooled engine's gas exchange and cooling.

The best place to take inlet air is above the rotor. In average one cylinder takes around one liter air for each firing. When 5 cylinder engine rotates with 2000 rpm,  it takes 5000 liters air in one minute. When you direct the exhaust gases under the rotor, you get continuous 165 liters per second pressure system to rotor and lift. Due to big effect, the gases must be taken and unleashed evenly to all directions. The effect is free of charge, possible that it improves copter car's flying capabilities.

You should never take inlet air from under the rotor, it weakens the thrust. Then you should check the optimal air inlet height and shape in wind tunnel. Flow to inlet can create too much turbulences above the propel.

If you use air cooled engine ( blue system ), you can take the cold air and flow from the center of rotor. Rotor "throws" the heat and exhaust gases away from center.

You when you invent and build a replacement for existing thing, the new one does not get very popular, before it can offer same qualities-comfort than the replaced thing. If you not familiar with car design, modern cars are designed with centimeter / inch basis. One centimeter-inch means quite a lot.
